- Boxed warning: semaglutide caused thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents; it is not known whether it does in humans. Do not use with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2.
- Not for use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding; stop at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
- Possible serious effects: pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney injury from dehydration, low blood sugar when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas, severe allergic reaction, worsening diabetic eye disease, suicidal thoughts.
- Common effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, reduced appetite, fatigue.
